My Connections to Play

Childhood Connection to Play
When I was younger my sister and I use to play house. It was our favorite game to play together. We also use to build the houses for our dolls with blocks around the yard. We were always outside playing with our toys or neighborhood friends. Growing in Haiti, children are outside playing all day every day because adults believe that children should be outside playing away from grownups. We were told that children play outside, not in the house, because we use to bring blocks inside the house to build out dolls house. The United States and Haiti are two completely different environments. I moved to the United States when I was still young and the rules were different such that I was able to play inside the house and engage more with technology vs. Haiti where there is no technology for children to play with. I am glad that I was able to experience living in Haiti and in the United States as well. In fact, children need to be outside on the playground to explore and excises their brain for a health growth.
Play today is similar to when I was younger because today children still play outside with their neighborhood friends as well as with online friend through video games. In this generation children have more toys to play with vs. my time when I had one doll to play with and had to make it work. I still go out and play with my nieces, and sometime I try to show them some of the games I use to play with my friends when I was their age. Overall play should be a part of every teacher’s curriculum because young children learn better when it’s fun.

Relationship Reflection

Relationship is a partnership where two people work on building a healthy environment. I always have a great relationship with my mother and she is my everything.  She taught me the basic skills in life to be an effective learner through my adulthood.  I still have friends from elementary school that I can consider family because of the type of relationship that we built since our early learning years. When you have that great relationship with someone that you care about it can be beneficial to both you and that person. As a professional in the early childhood field I need to have that positive communication with parents so that I can know when my students have critical needs. Therefore, having a positive relationship with my staffs, parents, students, family members, and the community is very important to me because we all can benefit from each other.

My husband is like my best friend. We have a great relationship where we communicative with each other effectively as well as support each other. My husband always encourages to do be better in anything that matters to me. For instant my goal is to open a learning center for special need children as well as regular education children after I finish my program at Walden, he encourage to start working on my project now so that I can finish both my schooling and open my business at the same time. My mother is my biggest supported she show me love in so many level and I am glad that I have her in my life. Emily is my one of my good friend that I value. We have a great relationship where we support each other on a day-to-day basis. We communicate with each other on areas that can affect our life as an individual. Having a great friend and family support can make a difference in someone’s life.
The challenge of developing meaningful relationship is to not judge each other, and always be yourself. For example when I met Emily we had a natural understanding about each other. We accepted each other and respected each other’s knowledge and ability as an individual. It is very important to communicate with each other with respect because everyone has something special to offer.  My experience with relationship and partnership plays a big role in my teaching career. As a teacher I have to maintain a relationship with parents and students in my class as well as partner with the community to have resources for those parents that have critical needs children in order to better serve them.
